Kevin Schaum

Kevin, a senior International Studies major from Annapolis, Maryland, graduates in 2017. Inspired to pursue a career in public service, Kevin decided upon the International Studies undergraduate program at UMiami for its emphasis on educating students in the public policymaking process at all levels of government in our globalized world. Through his interdisciplinary academic experience at UMiami, Kevin, who also studied music engineering at the Frost School, has involved himself in challenging and rewarding endeavors outside of the classroom setting, here in Miami. This includes volunteering for the 2016 US Congressional campaign of Alina Valdes, and interning as a research assistant to Dr. Imelda Moise, through which Kevin contributed to a study of health care accessibility rates. Kevin credits his courses and internship in the Department of International Studies for his abilities to recognize and critically analyze issues of societal importance; skills he intends to apply in his future career as an elected government official.
